# When does Bend2 release?

Last updated 2026-08-04. Canonical: https://bend2.dev/notes/bend2-release-date

Bend2 is expected around **2026-08-12**. That date is arithmetic, not an announcement: Victor
Taelin posted ["9 days to go"](https://x.com/VictorTaelin/status/2084361403880870390) on
2026-08-03, and nine days from August 3 is August 12. As of 2026-08-04 there is no release.
[The front page](/) tracks the live answer.

## What the estimate rests on

Bend2's date estimate has one strong prior behind it: Taelin
[declared the language done on 2026-07-18](https://x.com/VictorTaelin/status/2078553927268589989),
with the [CUDA runtime finished](https://x.com/VictorTaelin/status/2078471338755232193) the same
day. A countdown started three weeks after "done" reads as a shipping window with the
engineering already banked, which is a different object from an aspirational target. The March
blocker list had three items on it, and the July posts account for the hardest two. What
remains between "done" and "released" is the ordinary tail: packaging, docs, the announcement
itself. So: high confidence in the week, low confidence in the day. A slip of a day or two
would surprise nobody who has shipped anything.

## The dated record

Bend2's release evidence, newest first: the
[countdown post](https://x.com/VictorTaelin/status/2084361403880870390) of 2026-08-03; the
2026-07-18 posts [declaring the language done](https://x.com/VictorTaelin/status/2078553927268589989)
and [reporting the CUDA runtime](https://x.com/VictorTaelin/status/2078471338755232193) written
overnight by a coding model against the Metal reference; and the
[2026-03-05 thread](https://x.com/VictorTaelin/status/2029567059881857081) enumerating the
launch blockers: HVM4's AOT compiler, HVM4's GPU runtime, and Bend2-SupGen integration.

## What counts as released

Bend2 counts as released, for this site's answer, when Higher Order Company publishes code and
says so. Operationally that means source appearing in a public repository (`VictorTaelin/Bend2`
is an empty placeholder as of 2026-08-04), a tagged release or a package on a registry, and an
announcement to point at. This site polls the candidate repositories and package names every 30
minutes, and a human flips the front page: one commit, a static rebuild, live in about a minute.
Rumor does not flip it, and neither does 2026-08-12 arriving on the calendar. If the date passes
quietly, the estimate above gets revised with the same dated treatment.

## How to watch

Bend2's release will surface in a small number of fixed places: Taelin's account, the
[HigherOrderCO organization](https://github.com/HigherOrderCO) on GitHub, and, one hop away,
[the front page](/) of this site with its [RSS feed](/rss.xml). The feed carries one item per
material change in the evidence and nothing else, so subscribing once covers it.
